Aloha friend of Aloha Shares Network,
Fact #2: A lot of the stuff that goes into the dump is usable but, due to the cost of handling and storage, businesses and residents choose to dispose of it rather than find it a new home.
Fact #3: Hawaii's nonprofit organizations would love to get their hands on a lot of that stuff.
Fact #4: The Aloha Shares Network is a free service that puts you (those who need good, usable stuff), in touch with the individuals and businesses that have stuff to get rid of. There is no charge to either of you for this service. Program communication is done via email.
2. We go to work:
a. First, we review my database of businesses and individuals that have registered with Aloha Shares Network and have listed materials to be donated. If your request matches a donation already registered, I contact the donor, find out if they still have the stuff, then email you their name and phone number. You arrange pick-up/delivery between the two of you.
b. If our database of donated materials doesn't show a 'match' for the material you've requested, we send out an email bulletin to the entire Aloha Shares Network (donors) on your island, with instructions to email back if they can donate the items you requested. First come - first served. When we get a response, we give them your name and phone number and, again, the pick-up/delivery details are up to the two of you.
3. When you receive donated material through the Aloha Shares Network, you are required to send - in writing on your organization's letterhead - a thank you letter to the donor. This letter must also include a tax receipt for the donation. A copy of this letter must be mailed to Aloha Shares Network, PO Box 880852, Pukalani, HI 96788. If we do not receive a copy of your thank you letter within 2 weeks of the donation, your organization will be deleted from our database. This is your only obligation; you may participate as often as you like, but the thank you letters must be received by both donor and Aloha Shares Network in order for your registration to remain in good standing.
1. RESPOND in a timely fashion to our email bulletins when you want something that is listed
2. FOLLOW-UP with the donor in a timely fashion by phone or email
3. SHOW UP at the arranged time to pick up the items
4. NOTIFY Aloha Shares Network when you receive anything through the network
5. EMAIL us with approximate weight, volume, and value of the material
6. UPDATE your Wish List regularly
2. Provide the donor with a receipt for tax purposes
Please respect the program by picking up items you have reserved, or letting us know you no longer need them so others may have the opportunity. Agencies that fail to follow-through with these requests will be removed from our database.
